Quentin Tarantino film makes quite the reference to The FBI
Once Upon A Time … In Hollywood, released 26 July 2019, is a story about an action actor and his stuntman friend in 1969 Hollywood. Rick Dalton was the lead in a Western series on NBC in the early 1960s, but by the end of the decade, he’s reduced to guest roles on Lancer and—The FBI.
More specifically, we get to see his “sequence”—Leonardo DiCaprio is in the role that Burt Reynolds played in the Season 1 episode “All The Streets Are Silent” (28 November 1965). Mr. Tarantino did a skillful job of incorporating Mr. DiCaprio into the footage (and used the Season 4 opening), and this airs as a Season 4 episode on 9 February 1969. “The Maze,” which featured Simon Oakland, aired on that day.
Ironically, Burt Reynolds was to play the role of George Spahn, but he died during production. Another FBI guest star, Bruce Dern, was cast for the role.
Overall, a very cool movie, though we took issue with the way Bruce Lee was portrayed. We loved seeing the series referred to!
