The OTHER male lead was born 100 years ago this week!!!
Phillip Abbott, who played FBI Assistant Director Arthur Ward, made his entry into the world 100 years ago this week.
Born 20 March 1924 as Philip Abbott Alexander in Lincoln, Nebraska, he attended Fordham University and the Pasadena Playhouse after serving in World War II. His career in film and television began in 1952, and he appeared in both television and movies. Among his notable appearances were guest spots in The Twilight Zone (1961 and 1963) and on Perry Mason (1961 and 1965).
As we all know, Mr. Abbott’s signature role was on The FBI. That said, he was also active in the theatre, and helped to found Theatre West, a Los Angeles-based stage company. Besides acting, he also directed, including several FBI episodes, and also wrote scripts. Mr. Abbott remained active until his death on 23 February 1998 from cancer. Married to Jane Dufrayne from 1950 until his death, he was the father of two sons and a daughter.
