Joseph Maurice Walker: Destruction of Government Property.
Original broadcast date: 21 November 1965
“The Giant” to be killed is an Air Force missile named Thor. This episode deals with espionage. Special Agent Jim Rhodes at last gets to ride in a fast U.S.A.F. aircraft-a T-33. But the good inspector, not to be outdone, rides in a ever faster U.S.A.F. T-38 #38-135. There goes the air transport budget.
- Robert Duvall makes his first appearance on the series. Notice how much hair he has in this episode! He was 34 years old at the time. He would appear on the series a total of six times, between 1965 and 1969. Mr. Duvall, born in San Diego, California, is a direct descendant of Robert E. Lee, and is fluent in Spanish.
- Joanna Laurens, the beautiful former Miss America-Lee Meriwether-is supposed to be the inspector’s love interest. He barely notices her in this episode, but she knows EXACTLY where he is when Assistant Director Arthur Ward asks. This is also Ms. Meriwether’s final appearance as Joanna Laurens. She would make two more appearances on the series, in 1968 and 1971.
- By this time, the series is identified as “A Quinn Martin/Warner Brothers Production” instead of “A QM Production.” The show would not be identified as “A Quinn Martin Production” until the third season. This happened after Warner Brothers and Seven Arts merged in fall 1967.
- Twilight Zone crossovers: Robert Duvall (“Miniature,” 21 February 1963 ) and Paul Comi (“People Are Alike All Over,” 25 March 1960; “The Odyssey of Flight 33,” 24 February 1961; and “The Parallel,” 14 March 1963). Mr. Comi also appeared in the FBI movie FBI Code 98 in 1963.
