Case file: #87-52739-X
John Doe: Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property.
Original broadcast date: 5 December 1965
A sum of $500,000 that nobody would claim, and a man who has lost his memory are Inspector Erskine’s and Agent Jim Rhodes’ only lead to a crime within a crime.
- Early role for actor Beau Bridges. He was 24 at the time.
- The 1957 Ford Ranchero is in the used car lot of “Jovial Jason.” Another car on the lot was traded in by the bad guy and this provides the clue that breaks the case-the preset stations on a AM radio. Sometimes, maybe the old ways were better; this was before digital stereos. The good inspector, of course, solves the case but we never find out who gets to keep the $500,000!
- We also get to see Ted Knight (Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show) as a bad guy. Mr. Knight started his broadcasting career in Albany, NY. He lived from 1923 to 1986. Mr. Knight, who also appeared on other shows such as The Twilight Zone, would make another appearance the following year, in “The Assassin” (9 October 1966), this time as a security guard.
- Bill Quinn was the father-in-law of comedian Bob Newhart!
- And Clint Howard, younger brother of Ron Howard and a noted actor in his own right, makes the first of two appearances on the series. He also played a pivotal role in 1970’s “Incident In The Desert” (20 December 1970).
