Joseph Cloud: Crime On An Indian Reservation
Original air date: 3 October 1965
Argentine-born actor Alejandro Rey plays an Apache (Joe Cloud) who fought in the Korean War with Inspector Lewis Erskine. Inspector Erskine must race to save Cloud from local law enforcement officials intent on killing him.
This is a daring episode, showing not only compassion toward Native Americans, but also conflict between Inspector Lewis Erskine and Assistant Director Arthur Ward. This episode seemed to reflect the attitude of President Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society,” in which no one (regardless of their background) would be left behind. Good episode!
- Barbara Erskine makes an appearance here.
- Bell 47 helicopter N3079G is used in this episode. This helicopter was used in several episodes.
- Robert Blake started his show business career as a member of The Little Rascals. Mr. Blake worked on and off screen for years. He scored in the 1967 movie In Cold Blood, and in the 1975-78 ABC-TV series Baretta. Mr. Blake, of course, made headlines in 2001 when he was charged in the murder of his wife. On 16 March 2005, Mr. Blake was acquitted of the charges. Mr. Blake, an Italian-American, specialized in playing Latin and Native American characters during this time in his career.
- This is Alejandro Rey’s first appearance on The FBI. He would appear in The Flying Nun (1967-70).
- Noah Keen (1920-2019) makes the first of several appearances here. In 2009, he described to the website manager about how much he enjoyed working with Efrem Zimbalist Jr.
