Jack Dane, Leo Adamson, Joseph Schaffler: Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property—Murder
Original air date: 17 March 1968
This episode rerun 1 September 1968
The Feds chase a group of men who attack a bank messenger and guard, and kill the guard. The twist? The messenger had stolen a car while a minor, and spent time in a reformatory. Also, his uncle is connected with organized crime. So it looks like he is connected with the stickup.
Or is he?
Robert Walker Jr. turns in a good performance as the messenger who has to contend with both the FBI and an old friend who was part of the robbers. He also has to decide whether to work for his crooked uncle, or continue on the straight and narrow. The outcome, of course, is obvious. Good story, though!
- Dana Elcar played Colonel Laird (Lard) in the 1970s TV series Black Sheep Squadron. Mr. Elcar played the manager of the gym in this story.
- Anthony Eisley was one of Quinn Martin’s “repertory actors.” A few months before this episode aired, he played Colonel Bob Torin in two episodes of The Invaders, QM’s only foray into science fiction. It was one of the few recurring parts in that underrated series, which was one of several sources of inspiration to The X-Files.
- The 1957 Ford Ranchero is parked in front of the “Messenger” brownstone. It can be seen clearly as Uncle Frank’s limo pulls up during the daytime. It can also be seen at night after the bad guys try to run over the girlfriend of the “Messenger.”
- This episode was one of the earliest appearances of Barry Williams, who had a starring role on ABC’s The Brady Bunch (1969-1974).
- The first episode to air after the final showing of Batman, which took place on Thursday, 14 March 1968.
