Albert Rendich, Raymond Bergan, Anthony Sprague: Interstate Transportation in Aid of Racketeering, Extortion, interstate Transportation of Stolen Motor Vehicle.
Original air date: 31 January 1971.
Andrew Duggan plays Frank Conner, a crusading journalist, who is attacked by racketeers. A threatening letter mailed from out of state leads to FBI involvement. Inspector Lewis Erskine and company must protect Conner and also solve the case. This is another well-done, solid episode.
The FBI agents manage to get an interesting break: A contact lens that is uniquely shaped. Raymond “Duke” Bergan (Scott Marlowe) has trouble with his eyesight, and manages to finally get caught in a motorcycle/car chase with the Feds. Because he has no lens, he drives the chopper blind, and ends up driving the vehicle in a body of water.
One bonus: This episode is loaded with a number of prominent performers: Barbara Billingsley (June Cleaver in Leave it to Beaver), Andrew Duggan, Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg in The Dukes of Hazzard) and Gary Crosby (son of Bing Crosby and supporting performer in Adam-12). Special praise goes to Buffalo native Mr. Booke, who gives an outstanding performance.
- Andrew Duggan returns to the series after his two-year stint on the CBS western Lancer. This is his final appearance on the show.
