Alex Felton, Leo Miles, Barry Ryan: OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE—ASSAULT ON FEDERAL OFFICERS
Original air date: 16 December 1973
Rerun 21 July 1974
This episode deals with the FBI investigating the crime of jury tampering. Frank Campanella (1919-2006) is the older brother of actor Joseph Campanella. The older Mr. Campanella made his second apperance on the series.
The episode is set in Boston, as we see from stock footage taken of Beantown. Also, it appears that the show was more forthcoming on the Mafia, since it was finally dealing with Italian characters. This would make sense, since J. Edgar Hoover was dead; he was apparently subject to blackmain over his homosexuality. And Clarence Kelley, agency director, seemed intent on cleaning up his own agency. Hard-hitting episode!
Anyway, Mario Dracus (Frank DeKova), is on trial, and the jury is deadlocked. Now, underworld figures are seeking to kill him. They manage to intimidate jurors.
Highlights include a party that reminds one of the opening of The Godfather (1972), and Inspector Erskine using heavy equipment to stop a badguy’s vehicle. A good episode with good acting, though we like the previous week’s episode better.
